A Brief History of Restaurant Point Of Sales
Do you know Eugene Mosher? You could say, man this is “the inventor of the” point of sale software for restaurants. Here’s the story in brief.
In 1979, there is a cafe in Syracuse, New York, named Old Canal Cafe. Well, Eugene Mosher is the owner of the cafe. He first use POS software he developed on the Apple II computer. Mosher developed a software point of sale (which at that time only available for the retail industry) to meet the needs of the restaurant.
Eugene Mosher is a graduate in 1966 from Xavier College in Borgerhaurt, Belgium. He also received a bachelor’s degree in Social Anthropology from The State University of New York in 1972.
He developed software that allows it to order menu from the front (cashier), and then ordered a menu that is printed in detail in the kitchen printer. In fact, at that time, the software point of sale that he has developed a real-time labor and food cost reports.
Mosher sold his restaurant business in 1984 and moved to Oregon, where he first developed a Graphic User Interface (GUI) with touchscreen features. So, you could say this man who was also the first time created the software features a touchscreen for restaurants.
